Objects of Interest (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates objects-of-interest.com and publishes destination field guides, a journal, and a newsletter. For the purposes of data protection law, we are the controller of the personal information described in this policy.

This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies when you visit the site, verify your email to read a guide, buy a guide, or join the newsletter.

We collect the following categories of personal information:

• Account and access data. Your email address when you request a one-time sign-in code, and a session record so you stay signed in. We do not use passwords.
• Order data. Your email address, the guides you buy, the amount and currency, and the payment status. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not receive or store your full card number.
• Newsletter data. Your email address, when you subscribed, and whether you have confirmed or unsubscribed.
• Device and usage data. IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the page that referred you, and how you interact with the site, collected through cookies and similar technologies.
• Support communications. The content of the messages you send us.

We collect this information from you when you sign in, buy a guide, subscribe, or contact us; automatically from your device; and from service providers such as Stripe and our analytics providers.

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in, to remember your cart on this browser, and to store your consent choice. With your consent, we and our providers also use optional analytics and marketing cookies to understand how the site is used and to measure campaigns.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, optional cookies are off until you opt in. Elsewhere they may be on by default, and you can opt out. You can change your choice at any time using “Cookie preferences” in the footer. Our Cookie Policy lists the providers, purposes, and durations.

We use personal information to:

• Provide the site and deliver guide access, including verifying your email and honouring paid entitlements.
• Process purchases, send receipts, and handle refunds, disputes, and access revocations.
• Send the newsletter you asked for, and measure whether it is useful.
• Understand how the site is used and improve our guides, journal, and pages.
• Measure and target advertising where you have consented, and build audiences on advertising platforms.
• Prevent fraud and abuse, keep the site secure, and meet our legal obligations.

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (providing guide access and processing your order); your consent (optional analytics and marketing cookies, and the newsletter); legitimate interests (securing the site, preventing fraud, and improving our content), balanced against your rights; and legal obligation (tax, accounting, and responding to lawful requests).

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it with service providers who process it on our behalf, and only as needed to run the site:

• Stripe — payment processing and fraud prevention.
• Resend — transactional email (sign-in codes and purchase receipts) and newsletter delivery.
• Neon — managed database hosting for accounts, entitlements, and rate limits.
• Sanity — content management.
• Our hosting and content-delivery provider — serving the site and reading your approximate country from edge headers.
• Analytics and advertising providers, only where consent applies: Google (Analytics and Ads), Meta, TikTok, X, Klaviyo, and Pinterest.

Some providers act as independent controllers of the information they receive — for example, Stripe for payment processing. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights. To learn how a provider handles personal information, see its own privacy policy.

We and our providers may process your information in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States. Where personal information leaves the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

We keep account and email data for as long as you have an active session or relationship with us. Order and entitlement records are kept for as long as needed to provide access and to meet tax and accounting requirements. Newsletter records are kept until you unsubscribe. Your cookie choice is stored for 180 days and then refreshed. Analytics and advertising data is retained according to each provider’s settings.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw consent. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

We honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. When your browser sends it, optional analytics and marketing cookies default to off.

We use technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections, tokenised payment handling, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

The site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date above. For material changes we will post a notice on the site.
